Terms of Reference – Shipala Primary School Construction

The Kenya Girl Guides Association (KGGA) is the largest and oldest girls and women only organizations in Kenya. The Association has been active in Kenya since 1922, is multi-racial, non-religious, non- political and non-profit-making organization that seeks to empower girls and young women to realize their fullest potential as leaders and responsible citizens of the world. KGGA is seeking a Service Provider to provide Architectural designs of its project in Shipala Primary School, Kakamega County.

Objective

The project will involve architectural design and construction of 6 classrooms, Kitchen and Administration block. The Role of the architectural designer is detailed below:
  1. Background

The Kenya Girl guides association together with Mwashi Family through BCIF funding wishes to improve the facilities in Shipala Primary in Kakamega County. The Facilities includes
  • Building of 6 standard classrooms of 60 students each
  • Construction of administration block including a staffroom, library, Kitchen, Headteacher and deputy Head teacher office.
  • Hand washing points
  1. Objectives

  • To improve the facilities at shipala primary and provide a better learning environment to the learners.
  1. Expertise

  • Qualified Architect approved.
  • Experience in similar assignment preferably within the Kakamega County
  1. Deliverables

  • Design document which includes the preliminary designs that define its concept “KGGA/BCIF/MWASHI PROJECT”. This document is to include the following:
a). Background information demonstrating the firm understanding of the project’s setting, existing conditions and the relational for their proposal design. b). Design drawings and sketches including the following:
  1. Site plan showing the proposed position for the administrative and accommodation building and its relation to the other existing structures and the natural site.
  2. Floor plan of all spaces including lobby, offices, accommodation, store, and lecture room.
  3. Exterior perspective to show the building’s elevation (façade) design.
  4. Interior perspective of the building to show general design of the building’s spaces.
  5. Building description to identify its floor area, structural components, finishing materials. Mechanical and electrical works.
  6. General outline of quantities and specifications to list all building materials and their specifications.
  This list of quantities and specifications should include the following items:
  •   Grading and excavation work
  •   Foundations
  •   Wall construction and finishing materials
  •    Roofs
  •    Ceilings finishing materials
  •    Doors
  •    Windows
  •    Electrical works
  •    Plumbing works
  •    Painting work
  1. Work Plan

  • Proposed time table and key steps for how the construction of the building will be performed;
  • Company profile to include written history of the company and previous experience in designing and supervising similar operations.
  • Specify the cost components that the company includes in the computation of contract price in reference with the general outline of quantities and specifications as noted above.
  • Provide the payment plan before commencement of the project, during implementation and on completion.

How to Apply

Qualified firms are required to send a Technical and Financial proposal (as separate documents) as per the Terms of Reference for the assignment (TOR) demonstrating their capability and relevant experience by 18th February 2022 5PM.
