KGGA and PACJA Sign a Memorandum of Understanding to Promote Initiatives in Favor of Young Girls and Women

  Kenya Girl Guides Association (KGGA) and Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop and reinforce the mutual cooperation, collaboration, and implementation of various initiatives in favor of young girls and women. This MoU signed on 31st of May 2023 in Nairobi Kenya, is centered on the fact that both organizations aim to develop the leadership capacity and foster locally-led climate actions of Girls and Young Women to build a society that is more resilient to climate change.
KGGA and PACJA
KGGA and PACJA agreed to cooperate on areas of common interest where two parties agreed to cooperate on the discipline of common interest, utilizing PACJA’s evidence-informed advocacy work in Climate Change as an anchor in KGGA priority areas, and participation in Climate Change platforms particularly those that relate to girls and young women among other understands.   Ms. Priscilla Gathiga, Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Girl Guides Association said that as an organization they have a large constituent of Girls and Young Women who are active and ready to drive the climate change agenda across the country and ensure protection of all citizens from its effects. Hence from the forged partnership with PACJA, KGGA looks forward to promoting the intergenerational aspect of it. Fathiya Abdulmajid, the Head of Finance and Administration at PACJA who represented the Executive Director, Dr. Mithika Mwenda, welcomed the partnership and described it as another step as far as the intergenerational building approach is concerned.
MoU
The signed MoU states clearly the General principles of cooperation, Exchange of information and Documentation, Areas for Joint action, Areas of cooperation, Cooperation between The PACJA Secretariat and KGGA, Implementation of the Agreement, and Dispute Resolution.
PACJA
PACJA was established in 2008 with a vision to have a global environment free from the threat of climate change with sustainable development, equity, and justice for all. To be able to achieve this vision, building an intergenerational approach in matters of climate Justice is seen as a driver to that target.   Belinda Okungu, the Gender Focal Lead, PACJA, emphasized that enhancing intergeneration and equity approaches will help to create the next generation of champions in the area of Climate Justice.
